How We Built It

Bluestone stairs, from a bare bank to a proper way down.

1 · Layout. Total rise, divided by risers, divided by patience.

Level's happy.

Level's lying. Check again.

TWANG TOK!
2 · Base. The invisible part.

Gravel. So much gravel.

Compacted. "It'll settle" is not a plan.

BRRRRR
3 · Structure. Rise and run. Not the workout.

Same height. Every riser.

Even the one nobody sees.

CLUNK
4 · Treads. Bluestone: gorgeous, and fully aware of its weight.

Tap. Tap. Level. Tap.

Nobody drop it.

Wasn't planning on it.

TAP-TAP
5 · Finish. Sweep, rinse, admire.

Sand goes in the joints. Not my coffee.

Level says done. Ankles agree.

Any dirt left is decorative.

6 · The real thing. Yes, this one's a photo. The rest was mostly accurate.

Every riser identical. Count them.

Mind the step.
